Picture Day: October 24 and 25th
Retake day is November 30
We have successfully raised $2,987 towards finding a cure for cancer. Thank you to all students who participated in the Terry Fox run and contributed a donation.
The Beckett Farm Team wishes everyone a happy Thanksgiving. We share the same sentiment as our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau:
“Thanksgiving offers the opportunity to express gratitude for all that enriches our lives. It is also a time to reach out to those less fortunate — here in Canada and around the world — and lend a helping hand.
“Over the past year, Canadians have welcomed more than 30,000 Syrian refugees who fled their homes to seek a safer and better future. As these and other newcomers celebrate their first Thanksgiving in Canada, let us never forget that helping those in need is at the heart of what makes us Canadian.”
Did you know?
The origins of Canadian Thanksgiving are more closely connected to the traditions of Europe than of the United States. Long before Europeans settled in North America, festivals of thanks and celebrations of harvest took place in Europe in the month of October. The very first Thanksgiving celebration in North America took place in Canada when Martin Frobisher, an explorer from England, arrived in Newfoundland in 1578. He wanted to give thanks for his safe arrival to the New World. That means the first Thanksgiving in Canada was celebrated 43 years before the pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts. (Source)
Vandalism in the Bathrooms
Students spend more than 6 hours a day at school 5 days a week. The school is a home away from home for all of our students. Our entire staff here at Beckett Farm P.S strive to maintain the most optimal learning environment for our students from the classroom, learning commons, the outdoor play areas to our washrooms. It is very unfortunate that our washrooms have recently been vandalized by students. This is becoming an ongoing concern.
We have been requesting the students responsible for the vandalism to stop and for all witnesses to report to the office. These actions are disrespectful and create an unsafe environment for all. Parents please help by speaking with your child(ren) about appropriate use of bathrooms and about being respectful to oneself, our environment and others.
