We Scare Hunger
Beckett Farm PS Food Drive
October 17th to November 4th

Hunger is a super villain who makes life harder for millions of families across North America. For a kid struggling with hunger, one meal could mean the difference between having the energy to succeed in school and failing a test, or between staying healthy and getting sick. Over 21,791 individuals in Markham live in poverty every day, 22% of which are children.

Beckett Farm is collecting food for the Markham Food Bank to help scare hunger! This organization has been providing emergency food items to Markham residents in need since 1984. We will collect canned food for our local food bank to make sure everyone in our community can stand up for hunger.

We are collecting non-perishable items (canned or boxed foods that DO NOT require refrigeration). Some examples include:

  •         SMALL BAGS OF RICE
  •         CANNED PEAS
  •         CRACKERS
  •         CANNED MILK
  •         GRANULATED SUGAR
  •         JUICE
  •         JAM
  •         JELLO

Beckett Farm thanks you for your generosity.

Halloween at Beckett Farm: Monday October 31st.
This is a time of great excitement for all of our students. We encourage everyone who is interested to dress in costume or in orange and brown to reflect fall colours. We would like to remind all our parents that Halloween treats are NOT to be brought to school as the risk of allergies is too great. This year, due to recent events in the news, we are asking students to refrain from wearing clown costumes and also, it is important to remember that no weapons or masks are to be part of costumes, even plastic ones. The Student Council will be selling candy jar raffle guesses at 1st recess from October 24-27. For just 25 cents per guess, students will have the opportunity to win a jar of nut-free Halloween candy.

Take Me Outside Day and International Walk to Schooltakemeoutside-200x200-198x198
On Wednesday October 26th students at Beckett Farm will be taking part in Take Me Outside Day. The goal of this national event is to spend 1 hour outside to support education extending beyond four walls and a desk! Spending time outside helps us all to develop a love of outdoor activities and appreciation of nature – not to mention the benefits from the fresh air. In 2015 over 1000 Canadian schools took part in the Take Me Outside Day. This year students and staff at Beckett Farm will be adding its name to this celebration of healthy living and environmentalism by pledging their involvement on the 26th.

October marks International Walk to School Month and the Beckett Farm PS community continues to show we cares for the environment and healthy living each day students are able to walk, bike, scoot, or skateboard to school. Although the global event lasts a week, Beckett Farm PS likes to celebrate and promote healthy living all year long. Here are 6 reasons why walking to school is awesome. Of course safety is always the most important factor when walking to and from school. Here are a few tips to ensure safety. Stay tuned as we will again be awarding our IWalk Wednesday Trophy in November.
