Gauss Math Contest for Grades 7 & 8 students

Beckett Farm has again registered to allow interested Grade 7 and 8 students to participate in this contest which is run by the University of Waterloo, Centre of Mathematics and Computing. Participation is free and completely optional and students are expected to practice at home using past contests. During the week of April 10 – 13, students were asked to indicate interest in participating in order to ensure we have enough booklets for the test. Students will write the contest here at Beckett Farm on May 10. Participating students will receive a certificate of participation. Here is the link to past contests http://www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/contests/past_contests.html

Scholastic Book Fair is Coming April 24th

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school during the week of April 24 – April 28th. What better way to promote reading to our students than by supporting this important literary event. We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest in children’s books. Your support of this vital literary event is a key part of helping us obtain new hands-on materials for the Maker Space in our Learning Commons. You’ll find hundreds of quality books at our Book Fair with a wide assortment for all reading levels. This week, your child(ren) will be bringing home a Book Fair flyer that provides a preview of only a FEW of the many books available to purchase at our Fair. The flyer also contains a special Family Event Draw ballot that parents can deposit during our Family Event. You could win $50 in books – $25 for your family PLUS $25 for your child’s classroom! Don’t forget to mark the Book Fair dates on your calendar! We look forward to seeing you during our Scholastic Book Fair and thank you, in advance, for supporting this great literary event. Thank you for believing in books and the impact of reading on your child’s future.
