EQAO 2017 Standardized Testing

This year the EQAO tests will be administered at Beckett Farm P.S. as follows:

  • Juniors (Gr. 6) May 24 to May 26
  • Primary (Gr. 3) May 29 to May 31

Families, please make every effort to ensure that your child is not absent during this mandatory testing period.

About the EQAO: The EQAO assesses how well Ontario’s public education system is developing students’ reading, writing and math skills. EQAO provides reliable and useful information that is used to help improve student achievement and ensure the accountability of school boards. By providing yearly standardized tests, the Ministry of Education hopes to increase the quality of education in Ontario, while also using the tests to make plans for future improvement.

Scholastic Book Fair is Coming April 24th

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school during the week of April 24 – April 28th. What better way to promote reading to our students than by supporting this important literary event. We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest in children’s books. Your support of this vital literary event is a key part of helping us obtain new hands-on materials for the Maker Space in our Learning Commons. You’ll find hundreds of quality books at our Book Fair with a wide assortment for all reading levels. This week, your child(ren) will be bringing home a Book Fair flyer that provides a preview of only a FEW of the many books available to purchase at our Fair. The flyer also contains a special Family Event Draw ballot that parents can deposit during our Family Event. You could win $50 in books – $25 for your family PLUS $25 for your child’s classroom! Don’t forget to mark the Book Fair dates on your calendar! We look forward to seeing you during our Scholastic Book Fair and thank you, in advance, for supporting this great literary event. Thank you for believing in books and the impact of reading on your child’s future.

Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser

Over the next few weeks, our students will be supporting the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation through a fun 5K run/walk on Monday May 15th, 2017.
Each student will be given a collection envelope on Monday they can use to raise pledges from family and friends.

All monies raised will support the Markham Stouffville Hospital. As the communities around the hospital continue to grow, so do the patients who receive care and treatment at the hospital. The government can’t fund all equipment and other priority needs. The hospital relies on community support to drive innovation and enable growth.

Students who raise $25 or greater will receive a MSH RadTag Band on our school’s event day.

Envelopes are due back on
Friday May 5th, 2017.
