Faith Day- November 23

Birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

The birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh faith, is celebrated annually.

The birthday of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, is the most important Gurupurab (celebration of Sikh gurus) in the Sikh religious community.

Born in C.E.1469 in the province of Punjab, India, Nanak sought to heal the divide between Hindus and Muslims and expressed a message of love and harmony for all of humanity.  For his followers, his birthday marks off time of rededication to humanitarian ideals and acts.

The time leading up to Guru Nanak Dev Ji is traditionally filled with prayers, hymns and chants in praise of the guru. On the day of the festival, the Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy book) is decorated with flowers and carried in a procession. In the evening, many people illuminate their homes with lamps and candles.

On this festive and meaningful occasion for many members of the Sikh community, we join you in wishing staff students and parents a happy celebration.

Every Student Counts SurveyScreen Shot 2018-11-18 at 9.38.44 PM

By now, families should have received the letters for the Every Student Counts Survey.

The purpose of this census survey is to better understand YRDSB’s diverse student population as well as students’ experiences in school and outside of school.

Families with a child(ren) in Kindergarten to Grade 6 are encouraged to complete the survey online with their child(ren) at home by November 30, 2018.

Each child has been given a unique survey code to use when filling out the survey. Beckett Farm Public School encourages all families/students to take some time to complete the survey. It should only take about 20 minutes.  The surveys are confidential. Information about the surveys and the process is available atwww.yrdsb.ca/escs.

This important initiative will help us work together to create equitable and inclusive school environments. Thank you for your support!

● 查找并消除影响学生学业的系统性障碍;

CCI Research

Screen Shot 2018-11-12 at 12.28.34 AM.png

This is a reminder to parents and families that as the weather is changing and it is getting colder and snowier, please send your child(ren) with appropriate attire and outdoor wear. This includes jackets, boots, mitts, hats, snow pants, etc. Students will be required to go outside during recesses and your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. We want to ensure all of our students get the benefit of being outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and getting the daily physical activity!
