The Farm’s Funny of the week:
May is Asian/South Asian Heritage Month!
In May 2002, the Government of Canada signed an official declaration to designate May as Asian Heritage Month. This acknowledges the long and rich history of Asian Canadians from East Asia, Southern Asia, Western and Southeast Asia and their contributions to Canada. It also provides an opportunity for Canadians across the country to reflect and celebrate the contributions of Canadians of Asian heritage towards the growth and prosperity of Canada.
As we approach the month of May, staff and students, families are encouraged to join Ontarians and Canadians who will be coming together to celebrate the rich and vibrant heritage of people of Asian and South Asian descent.

Ramadhan- May 5-June 4, 2019
Ramadhan is beginning of the holy month of fasting and contemplation for Muslims. It is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is referred to in the Qu’ran (Koran) as a blessed month in which the teachings of the Qu’ran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. During Ramadhan, most Muslims fast during the hours of daylight and also increase their focus on prayer and contemplation. At the end of each day, the fast is traditionally broken with a prayer and a light meal called the iftar.
Ramadhan is considered a time for Muslims to recommit themselves to practising compassion and generosity for others, as well as a time to cultivate spiritual renewal within themselves and their communities.
At Beckett Farm PS, there will be a room dedicated to those students/staff who are observing Ramadhan to use while fasting during morning recess and the lunch hour as well as a place for prayer.

CROSSING GUARD NEEDED!
An Adult School Crossing Guard is needed in our area. Currently, there is a vacancy at Beckett Ave & Brock Ave. As you can imagine, the safety of children is paramount, and the community is urgently feeling the impact of the vacancy.
The program typically runs from September to June each year. Guards are required to work 2 shifts per day (morning and afternoon), each shift either half an hour or one hour in length depending on the location. The rate of pay as of January 1, 2019, is $17.00 per hour.
Full training on proper procedure and health and safety matters, as well as proper attire and equipment, are provided for all Crossing Guards. Anyone wishing to apply should be able to speak English, have sound judgment in dealing with traffic and be in general good health, as standing and walking for a period of time is a major requirement of the position.
Please contact Ms. Khan in the office if you are interested.
