The Farms Funny of the Week:
Questions to ask instead of “How was your day”
- If school were a ride at the fair, which ride would it be? Why?
- If one of your classmates could be the teacher for the day who would you want
it to be? Why?
- When did you feel most proud of yourself today?

School Council Meeting
Our very first School Council Meeting will be held on September 24, 2019, at 6:30PM. All families are encouraged to come out and be the voice for your child(ren) and partner with us in setting the direction for our school. Your voice matters and we look forward to seeing our families there!
Families please join us on September 25, 2019, for a meet and greet with our educators at Beckett Farm PS. This will be an opportunity for you to visit your child(ren)’s classroom and enjoy a short presentation from your child(ren)’s educators regarding the curriculum and the learning that is happening this year! It will also provide an opportunity for you to meet and greet all the wonderful educators involved in your child’s learning this year. There will be 2 presentations that will be exactly the same, one from 6:30-7:00 and the other from 7:05-7:35. This allows for those families with more than one child to attend multiple sessions.
Teachers are looking forward to meeting all the parents of their students and as a result, will not have the time or privacy to speak about individual student progress. We will have an opportunity to discuss specific students in a more intimate setting; parent-teacher interview night later in the year.
In addition, there will be a number of community partners set up in the foyer with information regarding the variety of programs/services that are offered in York Region.
We look forward to meeting all our families that night!
Grade 8 Families:
Are you interested in the International Baccalaureate Programme?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is student-centred with a focus on developing intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills for students who live, learn and work in a rapidly changing world.
The Programme emphasizes critical, compassionate thinking, community involvement and intercultural understanding. It is founded on international standards and assessment. Students who complete the Programme earn both an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and an IB Diploma.
We invite students who will be starting Grade 8 in September to find their area IB School or Candidate School on the YRDSB School Locator: (http://www.yrdsb.ca/schools/pages/school-locator.aspx) and join us for an information evening to discover what we can offer.

Terry Fox Run
Dear Beckett Farm Public School Family,
In 1980 a young man from British Columbia captivated Canadians with his determination, commitment and energy to find a cure for cancer. His name was Terry Fox.
This year our school will be holding its annual Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 27, 2019, to commemorate Terry’s inspirational Marathon of Hope. Each student will take part in this wonderful event and everyone is asked to bring in “Toonies for Terry” beginning this week. We call it Toonies for Terry but donations of all sizes are welcome and very much appreciated.
We are looking to blow donations out of the water this year and raise the most money ever! Let’s all get creative with ways to collect donations.
